Morocco is a tourist destination throughout the year, although every region in Morocco has ideal travel times. For example, Tangier in northern Morocco has a pleasant climate throughout the year, and travelers interested in experiencing the Sahara Desert may wish to insist on traveling in spring or autumn to avoid extreme temperatures.

Morocco stretches from the Mediterranean coast to the dunes of the Sahara, with varied geography in between. As result, the climate and weather vary greatly depending on where you spend your time. September through May work well for most travelers, and those prioritizing trip to the desert should stick with a winter and a spring. If you travel in the summer months and want to beat the heat, Tangier in the north and Essaouira on the Atlantic coast is great options.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT MOROCCO?

But this is the perfect time to visit the imperial cities in northern Morocco, the Atlantic coast or hikes at high altitudes in the Atlas Mountains. NORTHERN MOROCCO: MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE

Tangier has a Mediterranean climate, with warm/hot summers, plenty of sunshine and little rainfall. July is the warmest month, and the maximum daytime temperature is about 83°F / 28°C. Winter (October to March) is mild and warm, but cloudy. January is the coldest month, with an average maximum temperature of approximately 60°F/16°C.

ESSAOUIRA ATLANTIC SEABOARD: BEST IN SUMMER

Essaouira is close to the ocean and has a maritime climate. August is the warmest month, with an average maximum temperature of 84°F / 29°C. January is the coldest month, with an average maximum temperature of 65°F / 18°C. Winter is when most of the rain falls. November is by far the wettest month. There is very little rainfall in June and July.

MARRAKECH & CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MOROCCO: LATE WINTER, BEST IN SPRING AND AUTUMN

Marrakech (Marrakech) has a continental climate (away from the ocean). This means that the total rainfall is low and the sunshine hours are high. July is the warmest month, with an average maximum temperature of approximately 98°F / 38°C. The temperatures in October, November and March, April and May are very suitable for travelers. The coldest month is December, with an average maximum temperature of 65°F / 19°C. At night, it can be very cold in the middle of winter. Winter is the rainiest season from October to March. November is the wettest month.

MOROCCAN SAHARA: BEST IN LATE FALL & EARLY SPRING

The desert climate in Merzouga is hot. However, there are surprising temperature changes between summer and winter. August is the warmest month, with an average maximum temperature of approximately 104°F / 40°C. December is the coldest month, with an average maximum temperature of 60°F / 15°C. March, April and May as well as October and November are very pleasant months for the temperature.

There is very little rainfall throughout the year. However, occasionally there may be rainy days, and November has the best chance. In hot weather, there may be a danger of strong convective storms, but they are usually short-lived.
